Tourism

Three projects are emerging in this innovation area:

Project 1

‘Beyond the Black Spur’ project overview:
A three-part project:

      • Branding and identity: exploring the value of this for the corridor from Narbethong through to Eildon
      • Triangle Food Network is a pilot program exploring food-related tourism opportunities
      • Mountain biking – exploring the value and approach of linking up the existing trails to boost visitor numbers, length of stay and spend, with related small-business opportunities

Status:

    • Project is overseen by the community-led Beyond the Black Spur Innovation Working Group, with support from Council
    • Received a grant from Victorian State Government’s Community Development Fund to carry out the three sub-projects
    • Innovation Working Group is meeting regularly, with three sub-committees progressing the sub-projects between meetings
    • Other community members interested in getting involved with the Innovation Working Group can contact Council to find out more

Other potential projects:

Project 2

  • Dindi WinterFest is an exciting concept for our Shire. Creating a joint branding and marketing platform for events over the winter period. This will not only enhance current events but identified opportunities for future events and assist in seed funding.

Project 3

  • Exploring whether a White water course and unlocking key land for accommodation and other tourism activities in and around Eildon are viable projects.

Overview

Tourism and the Visitor Economy is important to many towns within the corridor of the project. Tourism is driven by our natural assets, attracting varying levels of visitors throughout the year. The proposition is to further capitalise on prime locations, particularly Marysville, by extending visitor stays and increasing opportunities for investment in the local economy. Key focus areas for further investigation include key worker accommodation, capacity building, skills and training, recruitment, marketing and promotion and investment readiness.

Shaping Murrindindi’s Future project is proudly supported by the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action, RMIT University and Murrindindi Shire Council.
